A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a black gun stone beneath a gold axhead, blade up and bearing a red demi-fleur-de-lis surmounted overall by a gold arrowhead point up all above and encircled by a gold scroll with the inscription POWERFUL AND SWIFT in black letters.
Red and yellow are the colors used for Artillery. The gun stone and arrowhead, heraldic symbols for ancient projectile weaponry, symbolize the basic mission of the organization. The arrowhead surmounting the fleur-de-lis for France and the battle axhead for Italy further refer to the organizations two assault awards earned in World War II.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 24 June 1968. It was rescinded on 4 March 1976.
